The Details

Specialized S-Works represents the very top of the range gear from Specialized. S-Works products are designed with a no-compromise approach to performance, and the S-Works Vent road shoes are no exception. Packed with innovative features, these Specialized S-Works road shoes offer unrivalled comfort and performance. Firts and foremost the S-Works Vent is designed to offer - rather obviously - ventillation. This is delivered through a mesh upper panel and a vented 'Mouthport' under the front of the shoe to help channel air around your foot.

The shoe also features a host of Body Geometry features including Specialized's Varus Wedge, Longitudinal Arch, PadLock heel and Metatarsal button. All of these state-of-the-art design features add up to provide a superbly comfortable shoe that will ensure your feet remain supported and comfortable even on the longest ride. These features also support longer term health and fitness by improving blood flow and supporting joints. The Vent shoes are then finished with machined alloy BOA S3 dials which are easy to use and ensure an even amount of grip across your foot.

  • Body Geometry technology
  • Excellent ventillation
  • Approx. weight just 223g (per shoe, size 42)

Our Verdict

The Specialized S-Works Vent shoes are packed with innovative design features that maximise both performance and comfort.

A great shoe that does everything the S-Works 7 did so well - but even better. The ventilation and vented panels on the upper are a great improvement and the powerline sole, although rated 13 rather than 15 on the stiffness index, feels as stiff as ever and great for sprints and sharp efforts..

With their highly ventilated design, it won't be a surprise to anyone to learn that their breathability is excellent, which is one of the reasons that these shoes became the go-to choice for many of our indoor cycling endeavours during the various lockdown periods over the past 16 months. Unfortunately, we can only back it up with anecdotal evidence, but having ridden in odd shoes comparing the S-Works Vents to dozens of other top-level road shoes, we are confident that the Vent shoes are the best-ventilated shoes on the market, and despite Specialized's claims that they are less stiff than the S-Works 7 shoes, the power transfer feels equal when it comes to performing fitness tests or racing..

True to claims, these things are seriously well ventilated. On one test ride in particular, with temperatures hovering around 36 °C (97 °F) and moderate humidity, pretty much every part of my body felt uncomfortably hot — except for my feet..

Footwear Size Guide

Purchasing a pair of cycling shoes for the first time can lead to a lot of questions. We at Rutland Cycling have over 30 years of shoe fitting experience, so here are some key pointers to look out for when buying a new pair:

1. When deciding what size cycling shoes to get, go with your normal shoe size, as cycling shoes typically run true to size. However, if you’re normally between sizes, for example sometimes you go with a 9 and sometimes a 9.5, it’s recommended that you size up.

2. The best time to measure your feet, or to try shoes on is in the afternoon, as this is when they will be at their largest due to your feet naturally tending to swell throughout the day.

3. Cycling shoes are intended to wrap snuggly around the foot as they have been designed with a specific purpose in mind—pedaling. The goal is to try and provide as much lower leg and arch stability as possible and provide you with a stable pedaling platform.

4. With the cycling industry largely originating in Europe, European sizing is the typical standard. The best way to figure out a specific brand size is use a that brand’s conversion chart. However, below is general sizing conversion chart based off conventional UK shoe sizing.
